what is audiology
Audiology is the made by combining of two latin words aud?re, “to hear” and from Greek ology, -”logia”. Audiology is the branch of science that studies balance, hearing and related disorders and also cure them. Audiologist treat those who deals with hearing loss and proactively prevent related damage are audiologists.
If an audiologist find that a hearing loss or vestibular abnormality is present he or she will provide recommendations and cure to a patient as to what options (e.g. cochlear, hearing aid, cochlear implants, surgery, appropriate medical referrals) may be of assistance.
Also the study of hearing disorders and speech is known as Audiology. It deals with human speech and hearing imbalances. The person who studies this rare subject is called an Audiologist.
Audiologist employ various testing strategies (e.g. otoacoustic emission measurements, videonystagmography, hearing tests, and electrophysiologic tests), Audiology also aims to determine whether someone can hear within the normal range, if not, which portions of hearing (high, middle, or low frequencies) are affected and to what degree.
If an Audiologist determines that a vestibular abnormality or hearing loss is present he or she will provide recommendations and cure to a patient as to what options (e.g. surgery, hearing aid, cochlear implants, appropriate medical referrals) may be of assistance.
Only an Audiologist can fix the causes of speech and hearing disorders in a person. He or She employs different techniques like these hearing tests, otoacoustic emission measurements, videonystagmography, and electrophysiologic tests etc to establish whether an individual is hearing impaired or not. Because of growing number of speech and hearing impaired individuals both adult and children, the demand for expert audiologist is very high and Audiology is recognized as a profession.
